What community living is, and what it is not…

Community living is:

  • Choice
  • Control
  • Communication
  • Full citizenship
  • Making a contribution
  • Knowing what is going on in the community
  • Access to community resources
  • Being a part of a neighborhood
  • Digital inclusion
  • Accessibility
  • Respect
  • Risk
  • Safety

Community living is not:

  • Lack of control
  • Aversives, restraint, and seclusion
  • Segregation and isolation
  • Lack of transportation
  • Denial of choice
  • Group treatment
  • Gated communities and clusters of group homes
  • Rules
  • Lack of voice
